Digital Writing

1. What are the problems struggling writers have in writing classes?😕

💙1. The struggling writers are often less motivated to write and fails to organize their ideas. These learners usually have poor handwriting (or has difficulty to write) and writes slowly or illegibly.

💙2. The struggling writers express their idea through composition and sometimes have trouble communicating and understanding their teachers and peers during discussion in the classroom.

💙3. The struggling writers lack of confidence in producing text and insecure feelings about showing their writing to others, in particular to their peers.

💙4. The struggling writers have negative attitudes towards writing and often have low motivation to write. This results in spending less time writing, reviewing, planning, etc.

      2. What does 'digital writing' refer to?😕

  📱Digital writing is the way to communicate with each other and does not follow the conventions of what is considered traditional writing. Rather, it is less formal, often has conversational style, involves shorthand, is less focused on grammar and writing patterns, and sometimes features images and audio.

3. What are the three digital writing tools? Give brief descriptions?😕

💛Blogs  is a discussion, informational article or personal journal, published on the World Wide Web, which is often frequently updated.

💛Instant Messaging (IM) is a form of Internet-based, real time text communication between users on the same system such as MSN, Line, Twitter, Skype, chat-room.

💛Social Network Site is a website or an online service platform in which people share interest, create a public or semi-public profile, and interact with other users such as Facebook, Twitter, Linkedln, and My Space.

4. How has digital writing enhanced the teaching of writing?😕

      1. Many digital writing applications offer an anonymity feature. They provide opportunities for users to use nicknames or pseudonyms. This anonymous identity results in less anxiety and more pleasant classrooms.

      2.In digital writing, learners actually type out what they want to communicate to the group or readers. This emulated real-time communication is perceived as advantageous since learners can see what their partners intend to communicate through the typed text.

      3. Digital writing promotes learners equity in terms of interaction. All users have an equal opportunity to type their messages and respond to other people's messages, this feature reduces teachers' authority, increases student-centered learning, promotes student participation.

      4. Many digital writings  have history logs where users can view the history of the conversations they have had with others. With this feature. instructors are able to keep track of learners' interaction records through the history logs with no intervention to learners while actively writing.

  5. Digital writing offers authentic language environments.

 6. Digital writing involves different modes of representation combining text, audio, video, still images, animation, and interactive features together-this multimedia writing environment can capture learners' attention and interest and suits learners' different learning styles.

5. What are the things that you should take into consideration to employ digital writing for teaching academic writing?😕

😢Shorthand and emoticons may yield negative impact to many teen users.

😢Digital writing discourse can harm young Generation M learners' academic discourse.

😢Easy to- use symbolic abbreviations will likely deconstruct verifiable grammatical rules

😢Digital writing discourse shorthand, abbreviations and emoticons make no sense outside of the digital writing discourse community.
6. Which activity do you like most? Why?😕

❤❤I like Activity 8 Closed Group Community the most because the teacher can create a closed group and the students can use this closed group as a channel to submit any assignment to their teacher, share ideas or knowledge. Moreover, students can have a chance to share and learn from each other some creative writing assignments.❤❤

My 2nd learning log

Weblogs enhancing EFL students’ English language learning

❤ Usa Noytim

        📕📘In the second week of studying in Computer Application for English Language Teaching Subject, I  have read the research  “Weblogs enhancing EFL students' English language learning”   by Usa Noytima  and gain more knowledge about weblogs. So, this week,  I would like to share what I learned from this research for all of you including the answers of the questions : what is the extent of students’ knowledge and experience of Weblogs?, what are students’ perceptions of use of Weblogs? And what are students’ attitudes towards use of Weblogs? 😻😆
       Before we start❗, let me tell you first what are the potential values of weblog use in English language education.

✒1. Weblogs provide opportunities for real communication in an authentic learning environment.

✒2. Weblogs also offer an online alternative to learning logs.

✒3. Weblogs enhance student analytical and critical thinking skills.

✒4. Blogging enables the creation of social networks and learning communities.

✒5. Weblogs provide a genuine learning context for EFL learners.

☀Now, Let’s start with the first question :  what is the extent of students’ knowledge and experience of Weblogs?❓

A : Many students commented that they gained extensive knowledge and experiences from Weblog use and had opportunities to create and decorate their Blogs, create and share their profiles, express their ideas, record their memories and experiences, and exchange ideas and opinions.

☀The second question : what are students’ perceptions of use of Weblogs?❓

A : Students viewed Weblogs as a medium of self-expression online and a tool to enhance English language development. Weblogs offered opportunities for writing and reading practice and communicating with other people. Some students claimed that by using Weblogs, they  could write more freely. Moreover, blogs also created social interaction, built good relationships and the learning community.

☀And the last question : what are students’ attitudes towards use of Weblogs?❓

A : Students were positive about Weblog use and the course.  Many students liked their free choice of topics in writing Weblogs.Students reported some minor limitations of Weblog use such as Internet access, digital divide, technological skills, limited English language competence and a physical-related problem (sore eyes when reading online).

        🌷To conclude, the results of the study indicate that the online nature and user-friendly characteristics of Weblogs encourage students’ self-expression in English. Weblog can be a tool for  development  their English, giving an opportunity and freedom for self-expression in English, writing for both a local and global audience, fostering creative, analytical and critical thinking skills, creating social interaction and good relationships between writer and reader, and supporting the learning community. So, We can say that blogs are a powerful tool for English language learning particularly reading and writing skills.😊

✋See you next time!📚

My 1st learning log

     In the first week of studying in Computer Application for English Language Teaching Subject, I  learned a lot of knowledge  about the meaning of a weblog, types of weblog, interesting words, the acronyms about technology and what is CMC tools.
Let's learn together!👍

     💙The first one is the meaning of a weblog. ----A weblog is an online journal that an individual can continuously update with his or her own words, ideas, and thoughts through software that enables one to easily do so. Unlike a standard website, weblog entries are made by all basic document formatting, like spacing, bold , italics, underline and creating links, requires no knowledge of HTML or FTP.

     💚The second one is types of weblog. ---Three types of weblogs for use in ESL Classrooms

1  ✏ The tutor blog

2  ✏ The learner blog

3  ✏ The class blog

    💛The third one is interesting words. There are a technophobe, a digital native, a digital immigrant and a tech-savvy.

1. A technophobe is a person who is afraid of new technology.

2. A digital native is a person who grows up using technology and who, thus, feels comfortable and confident with it.

3. A digital immigrant is a person who has come late to the world of technology.

4. A tech-savvy  is one who has high proficiency in the use of technology. An individual who displays an ability to effectively employ desktop/laptop computers and consumer-level technological gadgets.

    💜The third one is the acronyms ; CALL, TELL, CMC, CAI.

CALL = Computer-Assisted Language Learning
TELL = Technology-Enhanced Language Learning
CMC = Computer- Mediated Communication
CAI = Computer-Assisted Instruction

    ❤The last one is about CMC tools. What is CMC tools? CMC is computers connected in local or global networks focusing on human-to-human communication. Two types of CMC are synchronous tools and asynchronous tools.

✏Synchronous tools enable real-time communication and collaboration in a "same time-different place"
mode.

✏Asynchronous tools enable communication and collaboration over a period of time through a "different time-different place" mode.

💬 That's all for this post
See ya!✋
